Evening dress

1917–20 · silk, metal · Costume Institute

Dresses from the late 1910s are less common than those from later periods. This evening dress features an overskirt formed by a sewn rectangle that is allowed to drape at the sides, creating a modified pannier and well-executed embroidery with an early-19th century feel. Both are construction details that are representative of the time.
