"Uniform"

This suit by Federico Forquet was designed to promote the film 'Seven Days in May' starring Kirk Douglas and Ava Gardner. The producer, Ray Stark, approached Eleanor Lambert, asking her to assemble seven designers, each from a different country, to create a total look that would represent the fashions of 1970. The garments were then locked away into a 'Time Capsule' or trunk labeled 'Seven Days of May,' 7 Years of Prophesy Fashions, 1963-1970, and were not to be opened until May 1, 1970. At that time, they were catalogued into the Brooklyn Museum Collection. While this suit is iconic of the style of 1963, it anticipates pants becoming a mainstay of women's wardrobes, which did occur in the 1970s. Titled 'Uniform,' the suit was to be worn with a forward swept coiffure and a movable lens-visor, which Forquet believed would replace the common spectacles. In addition to the garment, a sketch was executed by Joe Eula documenting the design.
