Shawl — Unknown

The design of this shawl has several unique features: the border pattern combines both Indian and Egyptian motifs; metallic threads have been incorporated into the weave; and an imitation chain stitch is used to create the design in the inner field. Although the shawl does bear an embroidered mark typical of Indian-made shawls, it was woven on a power loom. The use of Egyptian motifs suggests a twentieth-century date; possibly woven in India using more modern techniques.
