Evening dress
Lord & Taylor
1900–1902 · silk, linen · Costume Institute

Lord & Taylor, like many New York City department stores in the late-19th and early-20th century, had on-site workrooms where they could produce custom garments. This evening dress, with its notable contrast of refined cutwork lace on the bodice and net lace of the skirt, is a good example of the type of work produced by the store.
