Parasol
Unknown
1850–69 · silk, ivory, wood, metal · Costume Institute

Extremely elegant, this parasol has all of its elements which make it particularly interesting. The delicate, fragile closure tie is still intact and is usually missing from other parasols of this period. The Egyptian motifs are a testament to the nineteenth century Egypto-mania that followed Napoleon's invasion of Egypt in the early part of the century.
