In the early 1960s, Jack Lenor Larson, the well-known textile designer, created a successful, but short-lived line of men's and women's clothing under the label "JL Arbiter." This dress reflects Larson's wit as a textile designer: rather than employ actual center front and center back seams, Larson lines up the chevron pattern in the textile so as to create trompe l'oeil seams, instead.
