This is an appealing example of good quality priestly vestments produced in considerable numbers at the end of the nineteenth century. The silk was machine-woven, its bold, chintz-like pattern emulating earlier, eighteenth-century work, with mustard yellows and beige-browns cleverly used to evoke the pricey metallic thread effects of older textiles.
