Following his "New Look" collection of 1947, Christian Dior continued to emphasize the feminine shape with designs that simultaneously enhanced the hipline and nipped the waistline. In addition the signature elements of the Dior silhouette on display in this example from the "Oblique" line, the design features a oversized draped collar which can be worn in a variety of ways, including turned up to partially cover the face. The September 1950 issue of American Vogue featured model Lisa Fonssagrives posing in the coat, where she peeked coquettishly over the large collar.
