The homburg hat style evolved from a regional hat worn by the men of Homburg, Germany. As the Prince of Wales, Edward VII (1841-1910) popularized the style in England when he brought it back from one of his regular trips to the mineral water spas in the German resort town. The homburg, along with the trilby, the fedora, the bowler and the top hat, remained the predominant menswear hat styles in both England and the United States in the early years of the 20th century.
