Evening dress — Lucien Lelong

This evening dress features an inventive minimalist cut. The ingenious skirt is formed using draped rectangular panels. The sleeves are cut in the tradtional manner of unstructured clothing but include fine detailed faggoting. These features and the overall hand finishing are hallmarks of French couture. The work evokes Madeleine Vionnet's early creations. Lelong gowns are rare and an early 1920s gown is a particularly important piece.
