Belt
Unknown
early 18th century · leather, silk, metal · Costume Institute

Although the culture associated with this belt has yet to be identified, the details suggest it is European, possibly Russian. The embroidery work in the central motif is quite fine and whimsical, especially in the depiction of lions' tails and legs. The heraldic device is specific to the origin of the object.
