With a label from the French house of Huet & Cheruit, this gown serves as a virtuoso example of couture garment in its combination of materials and overall visual effect. The print of the textile is meant to look like fur, probably chinchilla. Combining the print with real fur trim heightens the trompe l'oeil effect, as well as adding texture and an additional level of luxury to the design. This gown is a rare survivor from a significant Parisian couture house during the Belle Époque. The same premises were later occupied by Elsa Schiaparelli.
