This coif– a close-fitting fabric cap with strings– is very characteristic of a type common to the French region of Brittany. Particularly associated with the Atlantic fishing town of Audierne, it has long openwork lappets, which could be left hanging as ornament down the wearer's back, or be looped up and pinned in place.
