Cloche
Grace M. Cunningham
1929 · straw, wool · Costume Institute

The simplicity of the effect of this classic 1920s hat style belies the details of its construction. Made from high-quality straw and most likely hand-woven, the hat was blocked on a complex asymmetrical curved hat form. The shape is evocative of a squared off helmet form but maintains a light quality through sheerness of the weave and playful floral appliqués.
