Fan
Tiffany & Co.
1895–1905 · mother-of-pearl, silk, paint, metal · Costume Institute

A beautiful example of Art Nouveau fan painting, the luminescent colors are subtly shaded and the rendering of lilies naturalistic and skillful. The integrity of the design is implemented by reflecting the curls of the ironwork in the curves of the leaf tendrils and pistils in the flowers. It is further carried over into the sticks where the lilies are repeated and curling motif rendered in gold.
