This headpiece is an elaborate example of the Victorian custom of creating jewelry and other accessories from the hair of loved ones. Designed in the style of a mid-nineteeenth-century snood, this cap approximates a hairstyle of the day. Unusual in its concept, it may have been meant to be worn completely over the wearer's hair or perhaps under a hat.
