Mourning toque

With its dull black surface and shoulder-enveloping veil, this mourning toque makes a strong statement of bereavement during wartime. In order to compete with the unrelieved black, the detailing has been kept rather coarse by the use of large scale net and tucked crepe in a large and dramatic form. The juxtaposition of textures of the crepe and curly lamb fur is of particular interest, and the all-over tucking is an unusual treatment which strengthens the interplay of the two materials.
