Shoe buckles
Unknown
1910–19 · metal, leather · Costume Institute

The coloration of this pair of shoe buckles is unusual and pleasing. The combination of the bronze-tone cut steel beads, the brown suede and the gold kidskin is refined and subtle. The three different textures and levels of sheen of the beads and two types of leather also provide a nice contrast.
