Evening pumps
H. Jantzen Shoe Co.
1900 · leather, silk, beads · Costume Institute

The classic evening pump of the first decade of the 20th century is nicely illustrated by this pair in showy bronze kidskin. Bronze-tone was the only widely used metallic leather finish up to this time and, when beaded, usually paired with copper-tone beads. The spider web design incorporated in the beadwork is less common that floral or foliate motifs and therefore of particular interest.
