Apron
Unknown
1760–70 · cotton · Costume Institute

This apron is deemed special for it is an unusual eighteenth century example. The exotic motifs show the interest in botanical rarities at that time. Supporting this observation, the accession records note that the "whitework embroidery motifs [are] based on ancient Near Eastern (Mesopotamia) and cylinder seal motifs of date palm."
