During the 1930s and '40s, clothing worn for leisure, either in a resort setting or just casually at home, became acceptable and available on a larger scale. Designers offered play-wear that was easy and comfortable, made of less expensive fabrics, such as cotton. This chic example was worn by fashion maven Millicent Rogers. The sexy one-shouldered top is draped like evening wear and the drawstring at the side adds interest and style. The use of a simple knit, and the contrasting fabric of the top and shorts adds visual interest, an effective trademark of Valentina.
