Less directly alluding to the male uniform of a tuxedo but exploiting the masterful tailoring possible in the couture atelier, is the evening suit by John Galliano for Christian Dior Haute Couture. Galliano's design suggests the wasp waist of the late nineteenth century and the padded hips introduced by Christian Dior in the evocative historicism of his post-WWII "New Look" collection.
