This opulent Tunisian marriage tunic, known as a jebba, is heavily embroidered with symbols which promote fertility and good luck. Bridal costumes are often decorated with symbols intended to protect the bride, because she is seen as especially vulnerable during this pivotal moment in her life. This tunic features stylized khamsa or "hand of Fatima" motifs, which are meant to protect the bride from the stare of those who are jealous of her good fortune.
