Evening dress
Callot Soeurs
1923–24 · silk · Costume Institute

For Callot Sœurs the example of China amended Western dress, stressing tubular simplicity and Chinese ornament and technique. The confluence of Egyptomania, Japonisme, and Chinoiserie under the reductive rubric of Art Deco that occurred in the 1920s resulted in an intoxicating confusion of exoticisms.
