A Chinoiserie decorative motif on a vest is married to the signature Lanvin robe de style. Consonant with the Lanvin silhouette, the dress selectively borrows from the East, almost in the manner of a Chinoiserie object placed in a modernist interior as a point of punctuation. "Throughout her collections," wrote Caroline Rennolds Milbank of Lanvin, "embroideries appear that are reminiscent of Aztec, Renaissance, eighteenth-century, Impressionist, or Cubist art. Whereas another couturière might have been tempted to translate these elements literally, Lanvin's taste and vision were so strong that they became instantly `hers.'"
