The only Acadamy Awards dress so far in the collection, this piece was received primarily for its design merit. However, associational values can play a role in certain decisions, though always a secondary one. In this instance, the magnitude of the media coverage of the event and Miss Sarandon in particular brought worldwide attention to her Dolce and Gabbana gown. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were already well established in the fashion world, but this one event introduced them to the masses.
