The akhnif is a particular type of burnus, or hooded woolen cloak. It is produced by the Ait Ouaouzguite (Wawzgit) people in the Sirwa region of the High Atlas Mountains. The prominent red oculus design is believed to be a protective motif. Akhnifs are woven in one piece on a vertical loom by Amazigh (also known as Berber) women, and worn by men.
