Afternoon dress
Unknown
ca. 1855 · cotton · Costume Institute

This dress incorporates the romance of the buta motif in a fabric that has no similarity to the original Kashmir wool. The endemic Paisley-wool ligature is dissociated in the West, chiefly because of its extraordinary popularity as it becomes a design motif for all seasons.
