This molded clay tablet preserves an image of an early north Indian stupa (relic mound)—a type no longer extant. The stepped stupa is crowned with honorific umbrellas and festooned with flying banners. Written in Sharani script in the background is the Buddhist ye dharma creed, expounding the Buddha’s Four Noble Truths.
