mid-18th century · Ink and wash on paper · Asian Art

An inscription above the principal demon tells us "This is where Mara brings the demons to life." The master Manaku produced an extensive series of Ramayana paintings that are populated with closely related demons. If this drawing was not actually executed by the artist Manaku, it almost certainly was produced by his workshop.
