With its horizontal bands of sea greens and blues touched with yellow, red-orange, and purple, this kimono evokes the sparkling serenity of a shoreline. Its title, Tamamo, denotes water grasses and seaweed and is a poetic term found in celebrated literary works of ancient and medieval Japan. In a break with traditional kimono-making practices, Harada Mana was responsible for not only designing but also dyeing and weaving this garment.
