Absalmon Day
ca. 1794–1800 · Earthenware; Redware with slip decoration · The American Wing

The conjoined initials “AD” undoubtedly stand for Absalom Day, founder of the Day Pottery in Norwalk, Connecticut. The pottery specialized in slip-decorated wares, often with names and sayings. The green glaze and feathered letters and border seen here are among Day’s most sophisticated decorations.
