Tokuda Yasokichi III

Tokuda, who was originally named Masahiko, started potting at age eighteen and was named a Living National Treasure in 1997. His grandfather, the first Yasokichi (1873–1957), rediscovered many of the traditional glazes used in the Kutani wares produced in the early seventeenth to the early eighteenth century. It is this tradition, noted for its colorful red, blue, yellow, green, and purple glazes, which serves as the source for Yasokichi’s imaginative effects.
