This textile features a small repeating pattern of deer in various postures and six auspicious Chinese characters, all placed along a continuous undulating horizontal.The woven inscription includes the characters for ming guang (brightness). Textiles of the ming guang type are referred to by that term in ancient texts until as late as the reign of Shi Hu (335–49) of the Later Zhao kingdom (328–51).
