Formerly part of an opulent robe (kosode), these pieces with their lush grapevines must have been even more electrifying before the dye of the red bamboo fence faded. Other pieces from the same kosode are in the Nomura collection in the National Museum of Japanese History, Sakura, Japan. The textiles of the Nomura collection are associated with a temple inscription with a date of donation of 1796.
