This fragment from a full-length robe is patterned with snow roundels (yukiwa), a stylized pattern that developed during the Edo period. The roundels are filled with small embroidered flowers of various types, including chrysanthemums that occasionally appear to have roots. Other pieces from the same kosode are in the Nomura Collection of the National Museum of Japanese History in Sakura, Japan.
