遼 鎏金青銅覆面|Funerary mask

It was a practice of the Khitan royals to cover the face of the deceased with a metal mask. Recent archaeological excavations have recovered numerous masks from Liao tombs in Inner Mongolia and Liaoning, the home base of the semi-nomadic Khitans from the 10th through the 12th century. In spite of its soft contour lines and delicate features, it is more likely for a man, considering its size.
