Chōkarō Sennin’s horse is shown issuing from the immortal’s magical gourd. The animal was believed to be able to travel unlimited distances, without any food, water, or rest. The Kyoto carver decorated the sage’s robe with chrysanthemums symbolizing longevity and immortality.
