This print celebrates Onoguchi Tokuji, the combat engineer who placed the explosives that destroyed two gates at Jinzhou Fortress, near Dalian in northeastern China. A cartouche at upper left describes the scene in both Japanese and English. A follower of the acclaimed print designer Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, Mizuno Toshikata created illustrations for newspapers, specializing in images of war.
