『鹿児島賊徒鎮静依諸将 天杯頂戴之図』|Leaders of the Pacification of the Kagoshima Rebels Celebrating with Cups of Wine from the Emperor (Kagoshima zokuto chinsei ni yotte shoshō tenhai chōdai no zu) — Yōshū (Hashimoto) Chikanobu

The emperor, in an admiral-style uniform, and the empress, in traditional garments, sit on the dais at left and oversee the presentation of the Emperor’s “Gift Cups” to military leaders who had been involved in quelling Saigō Takamori’s “Satsuma Rebellion.” Imperial attendants carrying long-handed gold-lacquered ladles fill oversized, red-lacquered cups with sake. Seated next to the emperor is the Prime Minister Sanjō Sanetomi.
