Kaburagi Kiyokata

At the age of thirteen, Kiyokata started studying Japanese painting with Mizuno Toshikata and continued his rigorous artistic activities long after World War II. He was probably the last noted artist of the Utagawa school. In the print the artist's young wife plays a violin while standing among chrysanthemums. The dew of chrysanthemums symbolizes the everlasting youth that Kiyokata probably wished for her. Light misty colors invite the viewer into an infinite world of fantasy.
