Possibly made in the region of Kyoto, this bottle, which is based on seventeenth-century prototypes, illustrates the continuing impact of Chinese shapes and designs in Japanese ceramics. Similar pieces are still produced today. It has an interesting inscription carved into the bottom that can be translated as “best, best, good fortune.”
