late 13th century · Stoneware with gold and inlaid design under celadon glaze · Asian Art

This jar is a rare example of Goryeo celadon with gold decoration (several specks remain). This type became prevalent in Korea from the late thirteenth to the early fourteenth century, reflecting the tastes of the Mongols who ruled China during the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368). The cranes-and-clouds design is entirely Korean.
