The print reproduces Crowley's drawing of a five-tiered temple embedded in fantastic vegetation. Pinnacles of greenery surround the two top tiers and birds fly at left and right, the whole design set against a densely drawn background of flowers and leaves. The artist worked on a series of temple drawings while living in New York between 1910–17. "The Temple of Dreams" was the most elaborate and the artist hoped to include it in the 1913 Armory Show in New York, but did not finish it in time. It was instead shown in 1914 in Crowley's exhibition at the Berlin Photographic Gallery. Platinotype prints were made of all his temple drawings around that time and later sold through the Sunwise Turn Bookshop.
