This large-scale dish with foliate rim is an exemplary example of the green-glazed stonewares produced at the Si Satchanalai kilns in north-central Thailand. It has an incised design in the wet clay in which the glaze has pooled, its greater depth serving to heighten the décor chromatically. At the center is a floral roundel and the cavetto has four boldly drawn lotuses in bloom. A distinctive feature of the best of this class of ware is the carefully scalloped rim which creates a foliate effect, echoing the carved lotuses within. The bowl has a deep profile, with high, recessed foot. The latter is unglazed and has oxidization burning from the firing process.
