Myeonggi (spirit goods) illustrate a shift in funerary customs in which miniatures, instead of life-size objects, were buried. Reflecting Joseon Neo-Confucian aesthetics of purity and frugality, undecorated yet elegant porcelains were used as ritual and burial vessels. This example would have been part of a set of miniature vessels.
