A widow accompanied by two children kneels to implore aid from a portly man seated next to a table, a woman standing behind him. One of a group of twelve book illustration designs reproduced as an engraving in an 1834 edition of Robert Dodsley's "The Economy of Human Life," published in London John van Voorst. The image illustrates the text: "When the fatherless call upon thee...when the widow's heart is sunk, and she imploreth thy assistance with tears of sorrow...oh pity her affliction and extend thy hand to those who have none to help them."
