La Promenade
Isaac Robert Cruikshank|Gabriel Shire Tregear
February 1828 · Hand-colored etching · Drawings and Prints

This social satire centers on a dandy with exaggerated hair, sideburns and mustache, a tight waisted jacket and high neckpiece. He dances with a young woman who wears a narrow-waisted yellow gown enhanced with a flounced floral hem and feathered sleeves, a wide ribbon about her waist and a fan of feathers in her hair. Two other couples are indicated behind. Isaac Robert Cruikshank, the son of Isaac and brother of Robert, here works in a style reminiscent of William Heath, who returned to London in 1827 and designs numerous fashion satires of a similar type.
