This tailored jumpsuit embodies several of Claude Montana’s design strengths: his able manipulation of heavy materials like wool and leather, his interest in exaggeration as exemplified through the tightly cinched waistline, and his appropriation of elements from fetish wear as seen in the cuff details that evoke wrist restraints. Though Montana was active for a relatively brief period, from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, his impact on fashion has been significant and enduring. This look was part of his autumn/winter 1983-84 collection, presented only a few years after the founding of his namesake label, The House of Montana, in 1979.
