The decoration of the vessel, particularly the lively ornamentation evident in the adorsed palmettes and tongue pattern on the body, is characteristic of high quality Etruscan metalwork of the Classical period. The hole between two birds in the center of the handle is for the attachment of a chain, preserved on other examples.
